3-Dimensional (or 3D) shapes are all around us. Take a look at the photo of the Opera House above. What 3D Shapes can you see?
Lesson 1: What is a 3-Dimensional shape anyway?
Below are some links you can click on which help to explain what a 3D shape is:

Things You Need:
Things You Need:
- Glue, scissors, magazines, colouring-in pencils and your Maths book
- Write the heading: 3D Shapes in the Real World and today's date on a new page in your Maths book.
- Look through the magazines and cut out pictures of different real-life things that look like geometric 3D shapes. For example, you might find a picture of a basketball. Hmmm, I wonder what 3D shape that is...?
- Glue the pictures in and THEN write down the name of the shape (e.g. under the basketball you would write down ________ )
- If you cannot find a picture of something you have in mind, draw it!
- Have fun!
