Discover The Solar System
1. What is The Solar System?
Ask yourself, what do you KNOW about the Solar System? What do you WANT to know about it?

Complete a KWL chart:
- K stands for what you KNOW about the Solar System (or what you think you know). List anything you have heard about the Solar System in this column.
- W stands for what you WANT to know about the Solar System. Some examples might be: I want to learn about all the planets in our system, or what it might be like on the moon, or how many stars are there in our system, or how far away are we from the sun.
- L stands for what you have LEARNED. This column stays empty until the end of a lesson or after a couple of lessons. Here you can add new things you learn as you go.
2. What are the planets in our Solar System and what are their features?
Can you think of another clever way to remember the planets?
- Choose a planet and list 10 or more interesting facts about it in your Science book. Then use your list to create an acrostic poem about it in your Writing books. If you finished your poem, publish it on poster paper to be displayed in the class (make sure you include a drawing!). Here is an example of an acrostic poem about the sun (remember, it does not have to rhyme):
Super huge, at 1,392,000 kilometres wide!
Unbelievably hot at around 5,500 degrees Celsius on the surface (and much hotter at the core)!
Nearest planet to it is Mercury.
